Keto Friendly Nuts

One of my favorite snacks to have is nuts! Nuts are a keto superfood because it curbs that carbohydrate cravings that you might have while also giving you fat to stay full. I enjoy having some nuts while I watch a movie – It’s almost like popcorn!

You do have to be careful though because nuts are not carb-free so you can easily get out of keto. Nuts are also a higher calorie food, but I personally don’t mind higher calorie food if it keeps me fuller longer and keeps me from snacking.

Here are my favorite nuts to eat on keto:

    Macadamia Nuts

Macadamia nuts are my all-time favorite nut! They are a bit pricey, but if you get them from Costco they aren’t the worst price.

For 1 ounce of macadamia nuts (about 11 nuts), there are 2 grams of net carbs, 21 grams of fat, and 204 calories. These are not low-calorie snacks, but because they are so high in fat and low in carbs they are the perfect keto snack to have if you are hungry.

Macadamia nuts are also known to improve cholesterol. They also have the most manganese compared to any other nuts.

After macadamia nuts, pistachios are my number 2 favorite nut! I like to get the shelled ones so I can grab a bunch and eat them during a movie.

For 1 ounce of pistachio nuts, there are 4.9 grams of net carbs, 12.4 grams of fat, and 159 calories. You can get a lot more pistachios for 1 ounce than you can for macadamia nuts because they are smaller.

Pistachios contain good fats, protein, fiber, antioxidants, and vitamin B.

    Brazil Nuts

I always keep a small bag of Brazil nuts in my apartment because they are a great nut to have when you are really hungry but don’t want to make an entire meal.

For 1 ounce of Brazil nuts (about 6 nuts), there is 1 gram of net carbs, 19 grams of fat, and 185 calories.

Brazil nuts have selenium in them, which is a very important mineral. 1 Brazil Nut is 100% of your daily needs for selenium, which makes this a super nut!

I love walnuts with cheese, specifically Brie Cheese. This is a typical Sunday morning snack with coffee that I enjoy having.

For 1 ounce of Walnuts (about 7 nuts) there are 2 grams of net carbs, 18.5 grams of fat, and  185 calories.

Walnuts have Vitamin B, magnesium, fiber, and ALA in them. They are a great snack to help with weight loss, lower blood sugar, lower blood pressure, and lower cholesterol!

Almonds are probably the best bang for your buck in terms of money but also carbs. You can have a ton of almonds and have very few carbs compared to the other nuts. This is also why Almond Milk with no sugar is such a great, low-carb milk option to have. You’ll find Keto desserts use almond flour for this same reason too.

For 1 ounce of Almonds (about 23 nuts!) there are 2.7 grams of net carbs, 14 grams of fat, and 164 carbs.

Almonds are high in vitamin E, magnesium, copper, and antioxidants (mostly found in the skin). Almonds are also known to help with heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes.

Nuts are a great snack to have on the go or if you want something salty during a movie. Just make sure to portion your nuts instead of grabbing a handful – you don’t want those extra carbs!
