For over two decades you have seen NBC’s Donna Barton Brothers gallop up to jockeys who have just won the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, the Belmont, and the Breeders’ Cup. Today, I have a chance to speak with Donna about growing up in a horse racing family, her career as a jockey, and her most memorable interviews. Donna sheds light on how she was mentored by fellow jockeys and trainers during the early years of her career at tracks across the country. She also provides insight into how she forged one of the more successful partnerships in racing with trainer D. Wayne Lucas while giving advice to young people looking to break into the industry. One of my favorite parts of the interview was listening to Donna talk about her respect for trainer Steve Asmussen and her special relationship with Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith after winning the Triple Crown on Justified. My interview with Donna Brothers spans her career and also gives you insights into her career, charities, and current views on the best horses racing today. Sit back and enjoy!
